Alas is Yakutian name for this kind of thermokarst formation. Permafrost layer here in summer time lies at a depth of more than 1-1.5 meter that gives a chance to many plants to survive in severe conditions of Yakutiya. All alases are distributed by local governments among people, and they have an opportunity to grow some vegetable for themselves and hay for their kettle.
