River icefield

rivericefield.jpg

One of most interesting pecularities of northern rivers is the formation of the extensive icefields in the second half of winter due to the numerous springs in the river bottom. Water comes up to the ice surface and freezes... comes up and freezes... comes up and freezes... The result is the ice layer reaching the thickness of several meters on the river that could be crossed by han in summer time. Actually han cannot cross it because this ice stays in the river path over whole summer.
