Dear colleagues, we invite you to take part in the tenth anniversary conference "Plants in Monsoonal Climate", which will be held in Vladivostok from 24 to 27 September 2024. The conference is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Botanical Garden-Institute of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Plants in Monsoonal Climate" is a series of conferences started by Valery Alekseevich Nedoluzhko in 1998. Since then, the conferences have been held every two years, with a special theme defined for each conference. At the conferences the most actual questions concerning plant science are discussed - classification of vegetation, changes in vegetation under the influence of anthropogenic and climatic factors, adaptations of plants in monsoon climate, success of plant introduction in different conditions, rare species and preservation of their gene pool. During the conference period excursions to the territory of BSI FEB RAS and branches, as well as to the natural ecosystems of the south of Primorsky Krai, Amur and Sakhalin regions are organised. The conference "Plants in Monsoon Climate" has become a landmark for the community of Russian botanists and every time it attracts increased interest and gathers more and more participants.

The 2024 conference is held as part of the events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The theme of the 2024 Conference is "Plant Gene Pool of East Asia and Climate". The main goal of the conference is to understand how rapid climatic changes affect the especially valuable natural and cultural plant gene pool of the macro-region; to assess the risks of loss or deterioration of the plant gene pool; to outline strategies for the conservation and maintenance of strategically important gene pool; to see the prospects for enriching the agricultural and forestry gene pool with changes in regional climatic conditions. Also, traditionally, the issues of coordination of botanical gardens' activities in the field of biodiversity conservation and research, maintenance of bioresource collections, organisation of ecological-educational work will be discussed.

We expect that the conference will allow integrating the efforts of many groups and organisations whose activities are related to botanical and ecological education of the society, which is the only possible way to change people's mentality from consumerist to nature- and ecocentric.

We expect the main themes will include:

1. Climatogenic and anthropogenic changes in plant systems;
2. invasions and migrations;
3. Biodiversity and protection of the plant gene pool;
4. Introductions and biocollections;
5. New plant hybrids for new climatic conditions;
6. Environmental education and awareness.

In addition to papers in these areas, we welcome your proposals in other areas related to the conference theme.

Side events

1) Special session: "Interdisciplinary projects, eco-education and cooperation of botanical gardens";

2) Practical workshop of the Ecological Education Section at the Far Eastern Oceanarium and Vladivostok Fortress.

Researchers, teachers, postgraduate students, master's students of higher educational institutions, managers and specialists of the system of recreation and recuperation of children and youth, institutions of additional education are invited to participate in the conference.

Before the conference, after selection by the organising committee, abstracts of the participants' reports will be published. The Organising Committee is looking for opportunities to publish reports in special issues of professional journals specialising in biodiversity research.

The symposium abstracts will be available before the Conference. Organizing Committee is seeking the opportunities to publish the selection of papers in special issues of professional journals specializing on biodiversity studies.

WIKI says this.

LATE SEPTEMBER IN VLADIVOSTOK

From a botanical point of view late September in Vladivostok is still the second half of summer. This is the beginning of flowering peak for Asteraceae. The weather should be very comfortable for the sessions and excursions. We are firmly committed to achieving our best in symposium organization and extend a very warm invitation to you.
